·Profession:Tax collector or “Publican”

·Best remembered for:Authored 1st book of the New Testament. 

·Other memorable moments:Recording of the Sermon on the Mount. Immediately after he rose to follow the Lord, Matthew gave Jesus a large banquet in which he invited many tax collectors and sinners. The Pharisees criticized Jesus for dining with such an appalling group of wretched sinners; yet Jesus rebuked them saying," I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance"

·Death:The scene of his labors was Parthia, and Ethiopia, in which latter country he suffered martyrdom, being slain with a halberd in the city of Nadabah, A.D. 60. (Fox’s Book of Martyrs)
